Casa de Vinuri Cotnari is located in the South-Eastern part of Romania, in the wine region of Cotnari DOC and produces wines that express the terroir of one of the oldest Romanian and European vineyards.
The first archaeological evidence attests the presence of grapevines and wine in this area since the Neolithic period, when at the time of the Cucuteni Culture (5,500-2,700 BC) ceramic vessels for storage and wine consumption were found.
However, the beginning of the glorious period for Cotnari wine was reached in the reign of the Moldavian ruler, Stephen the Great (1457-1504). During this time, dates the famous Cotnari assemblage which was made of Frâncuşă, Fetească Albă, Grasă de Cotnari and Tămâioasă Românească, four grape varieties which are still grown with the same success and good results even today.
Casa de Vinuri Cotnari is a winery founded in 2007, which on an area of 350 hectares, cultivates only Romanian varieties. Having a portfolio of three different ranges, the white wines are distinguished by freshness, elegance and persistent flavors. Also, the rosé wines are characterized through fruitiness, increased acidity notes and mineral notes in the aftertaste, while the red wines have a medium body; plums, and red fruits flavors, and are an homage to the Fetească Neagră, a grape variety that almost disappeared in the recent history of Cotnari DOC.
