Alira is a boutique winery located in the sunny region of Dobrogea, in South-Eastern Romania. Located in Oltina DOC, the vines from Aliman are blessed by the maritime climate of the Danube, fertile soil and an ideal level of rainfall.
The winery’s name is an acronym that comes from Aliman and Rasova localities, where the vineyards are located on an area of 80 hectares. The first grape vine cuttings were planted in 2006 and their first wine was Alira Merlot 2009, a wine that surprised by aroma and complexity. It was the first step in making a series of wine collections which actually educated the Romanian public towards refinement and consumption of premium wines.
The winemaking style of red wines is similar to the Bordeaux wines. Is based on creating full-bodied, flavourful and elegant wines under the guidance of renowned French winemaker, Marc Dworkin. Lately, it has become almost a tradition, that every year Alira will surprise with new assortments like their first white wine (Alira Sauvignon Blanc), the only Kosher wine produced in Romania (Alira Tribes), or the making of a sweet red wine based in the Recioto style (Alira Eleganza).
