Casa de Vinuri Cotnari

Casa de Vinuri Cotnari is located in the south-west of Romania , in the Cotnari DOC wine-growing area and produces wines that express the T erroir one of the oldest local and European wine-growing and wine-making areas.

The first archaeological evidence showing vines cultivation and wine production in this area dates back to the Neolithic period. Ceramic pottery was discovered in the area, used for wine storage and wine consumption. The ceramic parts date from the time of the Cucuteni culture ( 5,500 – 2,700 î.Hr. ).

In spite of this, the beginnings of the glorious epoch of the wine made in Cotnari date back to the time of the well-known Moldau prince, Stefan the Great ( 1457-1504 ). In the mentioned epoch the local assemblage Frâncuşă , Fetească Albă , Grasă de Cotnari and Tămâioasă Românească became established . Four varieties that are still grown today with the same success and very good results.

Casa de Vinuri Cotnari managed to revive the legend of the three main elemts taken into account locally in the wine making process and the DNA of the wines – the three key dimensions are still in the foreground: tradition, history and continuity.
